The questioner : I have a wealthy brother who has a lot of money, while I am poor and unemployed, and I have no money to spend on my family except from the generosity of kind people. When my mother passed away, he took the entire inheritance and did not give us anything from it—my brother, my sister, and me. He does not even visit us. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah in your view, O honorable Shaykh?
The Shaykh : If the matter is as you described regarding your brother, that he is wealthy and that he took the inheritance and did not give you anything from it, then I say to this man: Fear Allah in yourself and fulfill what Allah has made obligatory upon you regarding maintaining ties with your relatives, especially your needy brothers. Return to them what you took of their rights from your father's inheritance, so that you may be safe from it in this world before it is taken from your good deeds on the Day of Resurrection.
As for you, be patient and seek reward from Allah, and demand from your brother what is due to you in the best manner, in a way that does not cause your enemies to rejoice over you.
