Ruling on a man preventing his wife from visiting her relatives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, whose name is abbreviated as (A. A) from the Arab Republic of Egypt, has a set of questions. In this question, he asks: Is preventing my wife from visiting her father's house considered severing family ties?

Answer:
Preventing her is not permissible. There must be an arrangement for the visit that does not harm you and does not result in severing ties. It is obligatory to enable her to visit her father and her brothers for the sake of maintaining family ties, unless the visit leads to corruption. If there is evil in her father's house, or if her father is not good, or if visiting him harms her, or if he invites her to what is wrong, then there is no harm in preventing her. However, if her father is good and sound, and her visit does not result in anything that harms you or her, then do not prevent her; because preventing her is severing family ties and undutifulness to parents. Therefore, you should not prevent her.
The woman has a duty to maintain her family ties, and you must enable her to do so. Her staying with you and serving you is according to custom, and it is the custom of Muslims that a woman visits her father, her mother, and her relatives. So you have no right to prevent her unless there is evil in the visit that harms her in her religion, or harms you. Then there is no harm in preventing her if her father is an open sinner whose visit harms her, or if his visit harms you, or if it is her brother or her uncle. So if there is evil in the visit for you or for her, there is no harm in preventing her. Yes.
