Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “... He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills, and Allah is over all things competent.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says:
Then He will forgive whom He wills and punish whom He wills, and Allah is over all things competent. فيغفر لمن يشاء ويعذب من يشاء والله على كل شيء قدير
[Al-Baqarah 2:284]
. This is excepted from shirk (associating partners with Allah), for if a person harbors shirk against Allah and relies upon it, He will not forgive him, as Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, Allah إن الله
Read the verse. Read it. Stand up, stand up, man.
Indeed, Allah إن الله

The student:
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills إن الله لا يغفر لا يغفر أن يشرك به ويغفر ما دون ذلك لمن يشاء
[An-Nisa 4:48]
.

The Shaykh : Well done. May Allah bless you.
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills إن الله لا يغفر لا يغفر أن يشرك به ويغفر ما دون ذلك لمن يشاء
[An-Nisa 4:48]
And Allah is over all things competent والله على كل شيء قدير
Every thing. So Allah the Exalted is capable of it; if it exists, He is capable of annihilating it, and if it does not exist, He is capable of creating it, and He has not excepted anything from this.
