Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh, a man ordered his family to pay the zakah on trade goods.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : I say: If a man ordered his family to pay the zakah on trade goods and they did not respond to him, what should he do with them?

The Shaykh : If he ordered his family to pay the zakah on trade goods and they did not pay it, he is like one who enjoining good, and the one who was commanded did not do it. He bears none of the sin of theirs, by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another وَلا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى
[Al-An'am 6:164]
.
But he must repeatedly advise them, perhaps Allah will guide them.

The questioner : Should he pay the zakah on their behalf, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : He should not pay the zakah on their behalf, even if he did pay it on their behalf, it would not benefit them, as long as they have not appointed him as their agent and as long as they are insistent on not paying the zakah.

The questioner : O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : He returned.
