A young child is one for whom you cannot tie a strong knot, so you take a rope and tie it around his neck so that his lower garment does not slip down.
There were men who used to pray with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with their garments tied around their necks, like the way children do, and it was said to the women: Do not raise your heads until the men are seated.
