The Shaykh : The author (may Allah have mercy on him) indicated in these reports that one should not exaggerate in the construction of mosques so that they resemble palaces. Rather, what is appropriate is that they be simple and modest, meaning they should contain nothing that draws attention. This also applies to the carpets; they should not be laid down so that they are as soft as sleeping mats, with sponge in them that compresses when you walk on them, for this is contrary to what mosques should be. Anas said: "They compete in their beauty, then they do not inhabit them except for a short time". May Allah help us. This is a reality; you find this person who competes in their beauty and decorates them with physical ornamentation, yet perhaps he does not pray or... Likewise, you find some people who adorn the Noble Qur'an and decorate it and labor over it, but they do not read it except a little, and if they do read it, they do not read it in a beneficial manner.
