The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in this excerpt that this argument, which they used as evidence for negating the establishment of actions with Allah (Mighty and Majestic)—namely, that actions are occurrences, and an occurrence does not exist except with an occurrence, therefore actions do not exist with Him—said (may Allah have mercy on him):
"This is the argument that brought them down, and indeed it destroyed all the foundations of the Qur'an"
The Qur'an is filled with affirming actions for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). If you were to reflect upon it, you would find hundreds of proofs in it affirming actions for Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and that Allah has always been and continues to be an Actor. However, Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: This argument is invalid and refuted according to the imams of verification and recognition. He says: The people were upon the truth, and their matter was balanced, until this argument circulated in papers and minds, and the people became disturbed. Otherwise, if the people had been left to their innate natural disposition, every person would know by their innate natural disposition that Allah has always been an Actor, and that action was not impossible for Him at any time, then it became possible after being impossible. This innate natural disposition does not lead to that. If the people had been left to their innate natural disposition, they would not have deviated from the truth. But these minds came and corrupted the transmitted texts. He says:
"Its parts took hold in their hearts, so its implications came to faith"
It raised its foundations and removed its basis, until it collapsed to its pillars.
