(Explanation of the Honor of the People of Hadith and Ibn al-Qayyim’s Defense of Them) A people whom the Divine established to preserve this *** religion from one who has a Satanic innovation, and He established them as a guard against

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"A people" means the people of hadith
"A people whom the Divine established to preserve this religion" May Allah make us among them.
"A people whom the Divine established to preserve this *** religion from one who has a Satanic innovation"
Allah established them, meaning: He bestowed upon them the grace that they stood to preserve this religion from every one who has a Satanic innovation
"And He established them as a guard against alteration *** and distortion, addition, and subtraction"
His statement, may Allah have mercy on him: "A guard against alteration and distortion" Distortion is changing the meaning, and alteration is changing the wording. If distortion is mentioned alone, it encompasses the distortion of both the wording and the meaning. Good. Likewise, regarding addition and subtraction: addition means increasing, and subtraction means decreasing or deleting. It is well known that the Qur'an does not need addition, but according to the principle of those people, it contains metaphor, so it needs addition. For example,
Your Lord will come جاء ربك
The statement of the Messenger:
Our Lord descends to the heaven ينزل ربنا إلى السماء
in their view needs addition, so it is said: "The command of our Lord will descend." But the people of hadith, may Allah protect them from evil, the people of hadith are those whom Allah established to preserve this religion and repel the doubts of the misguiders, whether that is through addition or subtraction.
"He purifies for Islam, or rather, he is a fortress for it *** to which the armies of al-Furqan retreat" And what does Ibn Isa say? Purifies? Do you have Ibn Isa with you?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : And what does he say?
