Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"Ask an expert about them, he will inform you of *** their secrets with advice and explanation"
Ask an expert, by which he means himself, for he (may Allah have mercy on him) knows a great deal of their sayings.
"He will inform you of *** their secrets with advice and explanation
They said: Guidance is not gained through the Sunnah *** nor through an athar, nor through the Qur'an"

Guidance is not gained through the Sunnah, nor through an athar from the Companions, nor through the Qur'an. Why?
"For all of these are verbal proofs *** that do not reveal knowledge or certainty"
Verbal proofs that do not yield knowledge and certainty. Why? Because there is sharing in them, meaning words shared between two or more meanings. The shared term, according to the scholars, is a word suitable for two or more meanings. For example, the word "ayn" (eye) is a shared term between the sun, gold, and the flowing water of a spring. So, in the Qur'an and the Sunnah there are shared terms, and the shared term is possible for all its meanings, so it does not yield certainty. There is also ambiguity in them, and ambiguity necessitates obscurity, because the ambiguous is the opposite of the clear. There is permissibility, meaning metaphor by addition and omission. That is, sometimes there is metaphor by omission, which is reduction, and sometimes the metaphor is by addition. For example:
There is nothing like unto Him ليس كمثله شيء
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
They said the letter kaf is extra; this is a metaphor of addition.
And your Lord has come وجاء ربك
They said the estimation and the command of your Lord came; so this is a metaphor by what? By reduction. Good, and so is the implication, meaning there is implication in them. Implication necessitates obscurity; sometimes the pronoun is possible to refer to this, and sometimes it is possible to refer to that. And there are also two copies with me: the verification copy and the specification copy. Do you have the specification one? The specification? Hmm?
The student: The specification

The Shaykh : The specification, perhaps it is more correct. That is, there is specification in them, meaning that the general term is subject to specification. It is known that when a general term is subject to specification, its indication of generality is negated, and this is a deficiency in it. And in it:
"*** the omission that did not reveal clarification"
There is omission in it where what is omitted is not known and has not been clarified. They consider all of these to be defects that prevent knowledge and certainty.
