The Third Principle: The apparent meanings of the texts of the attributes are known to us in one respect and unknown to us in another respect; in terms of meaning, they are known

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"The Third Principle: The apparent meanings of the texts of the attributes are known to us in one respect and unknown to us in another respect; in terms of meaning, they are known, and in terms of the manner in which they are, they are unknown" This principle may be the answer to the question: Are the apparent meanings of the texts of the attributes known or unknown? If you say they are known, you are wrong; if you say they are unknown, you are wrong. Therefore, it is obligatory to distinguish. We say: As for the aspect of meaning, they are known. It is not possible for a Book to be sent down to us in the form of alphabetic letters or in the form of the Persian language, while we are Arabs, or in English, while we are Arabs. So, in terms of meaning, they are known, and in terms of the manner in which they are, they are unknown. We do not know, we do not know at all. The Face is known, the Hand is known, the Eye is known, the Foot is known, the Leg is known, and so on. This is known in meaning; we know it. But if someone said, "Describe the Foot of Allah," I would say this is unknown. The attribute of His rising above the Throne is unknown. It is not possible. Do you understand, my brother? So, the texts are known to us from one aspect, which is, my brother, the aspect of meaning, and unknown from the aspect of the manner. Good.
