Explanation of the Book of the Adhan-03a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Musaddad narrated to us, saying: Yahya informed us from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Umar, who said: Nafi' narrated to me that Ibn 'Umar called the adhan on a cold night at Dajnan, then said, "Pray in your tents." We were informed

The Shaykh : He called the adhan, he called the adhan
The reciter: Ibn 'Umar called the adhan on a cold night at Dajnan, then said

The Shaykh : A name for a place, Dajnan is a name for a place
The reciter: Then he said, "Pray in your tents." We were informed that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to order a mu'adhdhin to call the adhan, and then say after it, "Pray in your tents," on a cold or rainy night while traveling.

The Shaykh : Yes, and based on this, it is recommended that if people are traveling and are in a confined group, when the adhan is called, he should say, "Pray in your tents," so that it does not become difficult for them to attend. If someone asks, "What is the benefit of the call in that case?" we say the benefit is to announce the entry of the time. And in this hadith is evidence that this religion is easy, and praise be to Allah, where He granted a dispensation in severe cold or rain for a person to pray in his tent. And His saying, "or rainy night while traveling," does not mean that it is not permissible in a settled location if severe cold or rain is found, because it is established in Sahih Muslim from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) combined the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and 'Isha' prayers, in Madinah without fear or rain. However, it may be said that the difference is that in travel, it is said, "Pray in your tents," while in a settled location, they combine, due to his saying, "without fear or rain," which indicates that they combine in the rain. So in a settled location, they combine, because the people will attend the first prayer, so they combine and the people disperse after having prayed. But in travel, they are told, "Pray in your tents." However, it will also come to us that it is said, "Pray in your tents," even in a settled location, as in the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas that will come, if Allah wills. In any case, the excuse exists whether in a settled location or in travel. If it becomes difficult for the people to attend, and if they have already attended, we shift to what?
The student: Reconciliation

The Shaykh : To combining, if combining is possible. And if they did not attend, or if combining is not possible, we say, "Pray in your tents." An example of where combining is not possible is Fajr; Fajr cannot be combined for the people, so it is said, "Pray in your tents." Likewise, 'Asr cannot be combined if this excuse occurs after the Zuhr prayer. And likewise, 'Isha' if it occurs after the Maghrib prayer, then combining is not possible, so it is necessary to say, "Pray, pray in your tents," so that it does not become difficult for the people.
The reciter: Ishaq narrated to us, saying: Ja'far ibn 'Unun informed us

The Shaykh : It suffices.
The reader: Narrated to us

The Shaykh : This is sufficient

The Shaykh : O people of al-Bahrain

The questioner : The caller: Peace be upon you, my Shaykh

The Shaykh : May Allah keep you alive. Tonight there is only one question

The questioner : The connected student: ...

The Shaykh : Because I have some work

The questioner : The caller: May Allah ... with good, if Allah wills

The Shaykh : Amen. May Allah reward you with good. Please, go ahead.
