What is the meaning of the hadith of Anas: (No time comes but the one after it is worse than it)?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The hadith:
No time comes but that the one after it is worse than it لا يأتي زمان إلا والذي بعده شر منه
Sahih Ibn Hibban 51:19
What is its meaning, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : This hadith of Anas was narrated by Anas from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when they came to him complaining about what they were finding from the rulers. He said this, and the intended meaning is regarding the rulers, meaning that the rulers do not transition to better ones; this is the general rule. However, goodness may come after that, such as 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) after this statement. He was among the best of the caliphs, and indeed some of them said that he was the fifth caliph of the Rightly Guided Caliphs who were designated by their names.

The questioner : Does the hadith continue until the Day of Resurrection...?

The Shaykh : The apparent meaning of his saying "until you meet your Lord" is until the Day of Resurrection, and it is not intended to mean until you yourselves die. Yes.
