The Ruling on the Hadith: (A time will come upon my Ummah...)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A brother from Iraq, whose name is Yusuf Jawhar 'Umar, sent a question stating: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Is the hadith authentic? And does it indicate the approach of the Day of Resurrection?
Answer: I do not know of the authenticity of this report, but the meaning of part of it has come from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), where he said: "A time will come upon the people in which nothing of Islam will remain except its name, and nothing of the Qur'an except its script. Their mosques will be full, yet they will be desolate of guidance. Their scholars will be the worst of those under the dome of the sky. From them will emerge the fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), and in them it will return."
This is narrated from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him and be satisfied with him), and there is doubt regarding its authenticity. However, its meaning is correct, for matters will change in the end times, and nothing of Islam will remain except its name, and nothing of the Qur'an except its script; because they will not act upon it. Then, when nothing remains except its script, it will be lifted in the end times. This is one of the signs of the Hour, and, as the authentic hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) confirm.
So this meaning is correct. This meaning, even though there is doubt regarding the report, is correct in its meaning; because conditions will change in the end times, and knowledge and virtue will decrease, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: All of this is happening as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us. Likewise, in the end times, mosques will be built with cement, stone, and concrete, with various types of construction, but those who visit them and pray in them will decrease due to the lack of desire for good, the lack of faith, and the weakness of the restraining influence of faith.
Likewise, there will be scholars, but they will be deviated from guidance in the end times. They have existed in this time and in other times, but the matter will become more severe. They will be scholars of falsehood, scholars of misguidance, calling to corruption and evil, and to shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and to bid'ah (religious innovation) and superstitions. They are scholars in name, but in reality, they are not scholars due to their misguidance and their distance from guidance. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.

A time will come upon my Ummah in which nothing of Islam will remain except its name, and nothing of faith except its script, and nothing of the Qur'an except its letters. Their concern will be their bellies, their religion their dirhams, and their qiblah (direction of prayer) their women. They will not be satisfied with little, nor will they be filled by much.
Is the hadith authentic? And does it indicate the approach of the Day of Resurrection?

A time will come upon the people in which it will not be said: "Allah, Allah," and it will not be said: "There is no god but Allah."
يأتي على الناس زمان لا يقال فيه: الله الله ولا يقال فيه: لا إله إلا اللهSo this meaning is correct. This meaning, even though there is doubt regarding the report, is correct in its meaning; because conditions will change in the end times, and knowledge and virtue will decrease, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Time will draw close, ignorance will appear, knowledge will decrease, zina (unlawful sexual intercourse) will spread, khamr (intoxicants) will be drunk, and al-haraj (mass killing) will increase. It was said: O Messenger of Allah! What is al-haraj? He said: Killing, killing.
يتقارب الزمان ويظهر الجهل ويقل العلم ويفشو الزنا ويشرب الخمر ويكثر الهرج. قيل: يا رسول الله! ما الهرج؟ قال: القتل القتلLikewise, there will be scholars, but they will be deviated from guidance in the end times.
