Explanation of the Book of the Adhan-08a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Adam ibn Abi Iyas narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us, saying: Muharib ibn Dathar narrated to us, saying: I heard Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah al-Ansari say: A man came in with two she-camels, and the night had begun to fall. He found Mu'adh praying, so he left his she-camels and went to Mu'adh. Mu'adh recited Surat al-Baqarah or Surat al-Nisa. The man left, and it was reported to him that Mu'adh had spoken ill of him. So he went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and complained about Mu'adh to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Mu`adh ! Are you putting the people to trial?" It would have been better if you had recited "Sabbih Isma Rabbika-l-A`la (87)", Wash-shamsi wa duhaha (91)", or "Wal-laili idha yaghsha (92)", for the old, the weak and the needy pray behind you." يا معاذ أفتان أنت أو أفاتن ثلاث مرار فلولا صليت بسبح اسم ربك والشمس وضحاها والليل إذا يغشى فإنه يصلي وراءك الكبير والضعيف وذو الحاجة
Sahih al-Bukhari 705
I think this is in the hadith. Abu 'Abd Allah said: Sa'id ibn Masruq, Mas'ar, and al-Shaybani supported him. 'Amr said: 'Ubayd Allah ibn Maqsum and Abu al-Zubayr narrated from Jabir that Mu'adh recited al-Baqarah in the 'Isha' prayer. Al-A'mash supported him from Muharib.

The Shaykh : The translation, as you have heard, is "The chapter on one who complains about his imam if he prolongs the prayer," meaning: is it permissible or not? Then he cited the hadith of Abu Mas'ud and the hadith of Jabir, which indicates that complaining about an imam who prolongs the prayer is permissible, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted this complaint and established rulings based on it.
