Explanation of the Book of Friday Prayer and the Two Festivals-01a
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, Shu'ayb informed us, Abu al-Zinad narrated to us that 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Hurmuz al-A'raj, the client of Rabi'ah ibn al-Harith, narrated to him that he heard Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) say that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Sahih al-Bukhari 876.
The Shaykh : "We are the last" means in terms of time, so this Ummah is the last of the nations.
In all the open spaces and standing places of the Day of Resurrection, the first [in rank] are this Ummah, and all praise is due to Allah. In the judgment between people, in crossing the Sirat, in entering Paradise, in all the scenes of the Day of Resurrection, the first [in rank] are this Ummah, despite their late arrival in time.
And His saying: "Although" here means "except," that is, except that they were given the Scripture before us. But praise be to Allah, they were given the Scripture before us, and we were given the Scripture after them. However, they did not act upon it, whereas we, praise be to Allah, acted upon it.
And he said:Sahih al-Bukhari 876 "This" refers to the day of Friday. It was made obligatory upon them to honor it, but they differed over it, so they were punished by being deprived of it. [An-Nahl 16:124] Thus, the difference arose between the Jews and the Christians. After they differed over the day of Friday, they also differed over the day of Saturday. So the Jews had Saturday, and the Christians had Sunday. This is part of the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) that He facilitated their difference so that the Muslims would be this Ummah. They differed, and thus they became followers of it: the Jews on Saturday and the Christians on Sunday.
The point of this hadith is His saying: which matches the chapter title exactly, where it says: "Chapter on the Obligation of Friday Prayer".
The questioner : ...
The Shaykh : "So Allah guided us," do you have it? No, I do not have it.
The questioner : Even in the explanation.
The Shaykh : Is it not there? It is there, good.
We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but (will be) the foremost on the Day of Resurrection though the former nations were given the Holy Scriptures before us. And this was their day (Friday) the celebration of which was made compulsory for them but they differed about it. So Allah gave us the guidance for it (Friday) and all the other people are behind us in this respect: the Jews' (holy day is) tomorrow (i.e. Saturday) and the Christians' (is) the day after tomorrow (i.e. Sunday).
