The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah bless you, how do we refute the argument of the people of innovation using the aforementioned hadith, meaning for some of the innovations they claim are good, and by which they argued that they were responding with a talbiyah other than the talbiyah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and other than what was transmitted, such as supplication in the funeral prayer and the like? How do we refute this argument?

The Shaykh : Refuting this is easy. In the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), it was the era of legislation, so approval would come from the Messenger if he knew of it, or from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). But we are not in the era of legislation, so we must adhere only to what the Sunnah brought. If we opened the door and said that every person can legislate, the Ummah would split apart. Yes, that is right.
