Explanation of the Book of Friday Prayer and the Two Festivals-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Muhammad, who is Ibn Muqatil Abu al-Hasan al-Marwazi, narrated to us, Abdullah narrated to us, Ubaydullah narrated to us, from Nafi', from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, from Aisha:
when God's Messenger saw rain he said, “O God, send a beneficial downpour." أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا رأى المطر قال: اللهم صيبًا نافعًا
Mishkat al-Masabih 1500
Al-Qasim ibn Yahya followed him from Ubaydullah, and al-Awza'i and 'Aqil narrated it from Nafi'.

The Shaykh : His statement:
A downpour صيبا
means falling, due to his statement
Or [it is] like a rainstorm from the sky أو كصيب من السماء
[Al-Baqarah 2:19]
It is in the accusative case based on a deleted verb, the estimation being: O Allah, make it a beneficial downpour. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only supplicated with this because a downpour may be beneficial and may be non-beneficial. The evidence for that is that it is established in *Sahih Muslim* that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It is not the Sunnah that you do not rain, rather the Sunnah is that you rain and the earth does not grow anything ليس السنة ألا تمطروا، إنما السنة أن تمطروا فلا تنبت الأرض شيئا
, so if the rain is non-beneficial, there is no benefit in it. If the Messenger says this, do we say that it is recommended for us to say it? Due to His statement, the Exalted:
There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern لقد كان لكم في رسول الله أسوة حسنة
[Al-Ahzab 33:21]
And is it obligatory for us to say it? No, because a bare action does not indicate obligation, meaning if a bare action is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that is not accompanied by a command or an explanation of what is commanded, then it is only recommended if he does it by way of worship.
