The Shaykh : The Throne is the highest of created things, and if Allah is rising above it, it follows that Allah is above everything, and He is so. For this reason, among the creed of the people of the Sunnah and the community is the affirmation of the rising of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And I think that each one of you prostrates to Allah and says, "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High." Where does his heart turn?
The questioner : To the Most High.
The Shaykh : What do you say? Hurry up, my brother?
The questioner : To the Most High.
The Shaykh : To the above. You have done well. Every person prostrates and says, "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High," and his heart does not turn except to the height. Every person calls upon Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and supplicates to Him, raising his hands. Where to? To the height, because he knows that the One he called was above His creation (Mighty and Majestic). Indeed, the first thing that turns to the heart of the common person regarding the meaning of the rising of Allah is: what is it? It is the rising of the Essence, meaning that Allah Himself is above everything. The student of knowledge says, "I believe that Allah is above everything, but I say that the rising of Allah is of two types: the rising of the Essence and the rising of the Attribute. The rising of the Essence and the rising of the Attribute. As for the rising of the Essence, the evidences have converged on its affirmation. And as for the rising of the Attribute, likewise the evidences have converged on its affirmation. Read the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):[Al-An'am 6:113] What is it? After that, [An-Nahl 16:60].
The scholars said: The meaning of "the like" is the attribute or the description. And they cited as evidence for this His saying, the Exalted:[Muhammad 47:15] O Allah, make us among the people of Paradise. O Allah, make us among the people of Paradise. O Allah, make us among the people of Paradise. [Ar-Ra'd 13:35] Meaning, its description or its attribute is that in it are rivers of water that does not become foul, and so on. So, for Allah is the highest like, meaning the highest description. This is the rising of the Attribute. So every perfection, for Allah the Exalted is its highest. Knowledge, for Allah is its highest. Hearing, for Allah is its highest. Sight, for Allah is its highest. Power, and so on. As for the rising of the Essence, meaning that Allah Himself is above everything, this also has evidences that have converged upon it in a convergence that has not occurred for anything else, except a little, in the Noble Qur'an.
