The chapter on the names and attributes is based on divine revelation

The Shaykh : And you know, may Allah bless you, that the issues of the attributes are among the matters of the unseen, of which we have no knowledge except through what Allah has revealed to us. They are also matters of the unseen that have no counterpart in the visible world. Pay attention to this point as well: they have no counterpart in the visible world, meaning in what we observe, because Allah is not like anything else. Therefore, it is not possible to make analogies or to imagine. If someone were to compare the hand of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, to the hand of a created being, what would we say to him? We would say, this is forbidden and this is misguidance, because Allah says: [Ash-Shuraa 42:11] If he says, "I do not understand a hand except one like the hand of a created being."
We said, "Very well, are the hands of created beings identical and uniform, or are they different?"
The student: They are different.
The Shaykh : They are different, are they not? So if the hands of created beings are different despite the agreement in the name, then the difference between the Creator and the created is even more primary, clearer, and more apparent.[Ash-Shuraa 42:11] Therefore, since we believe that the attributes of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, are among the matters of the unseen, we must restrict ourselves to what has come in the explicit text; we do not diminish it and we do not add to it. Some matters may be difficult for some people, especially now that the world has opened up, and they may find them confusing.
