Exegesis of Verses (5 - 6) of Surat al-Hadid.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets and the Imam of the righteous, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows,
This is the one hundred and eleventh meeting of the meetings called Al-Liqa' al-Bab al-Maftuh (The Open Door Meeting), which take place every Thursday, and this Thursday is the twelfth, or is it the seventh?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : The seventeenth of the month of Rabi' al-Awwal of the year 1420. We begin this meeting with what we have been accustomed to beginning with, which is exegesis, explaining what Allah Mighty and Majestic makes easy, because the knowledge of exegesis is the noblest of the sciences because it concerns the greatest of books, which is the Noble Qur'an, and knowledge is noble by the nobility of the known. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did not move on from ten verses until they learned them and the knowledge and action contained in them. They said, "So we learned the Qur'an, the knowledge, and the action all together." A student of knowledge should pay attention to exegesis and understand the Book of Allah Mighty and Majestic so that he may act upon it, because it is not possible to act except after knowing the meaning, and acting upon the Qur'an is obligatory, so we must know its meaning. My advice to students of knowledge is to pay full attention to the exegesis of the Book of Allah Mighty and Majestic, and if it is possible for them to memorize it, that is more complete and better. What was the last verse we read?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : It is the saying of Allah Blessed and Exalted is He:
to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth
[Al-Baqarah 2:107]
in Surat al-Hadid. "To Him" means to Allah the Exalted alone, the ownership of the heavens and the earth: in creation and management. So no one owns the heavens and the earth except Allah Mighty and Majestic, neither independently nor in partnership. Allah the Exalted said:
Say, [O Muhammad], "Invoke those you claim [as deities] besides Allah." They do not possess an atom's weight [of ability] in the heavens or on the earth
[Saba 34:22]
the weight of an atom in the heavens or on the earth!
and they do not have therein any partnership
[Saba 34:22]
So He negated independence and negated partnership.
And He has وما له
meaning, what belongs to Allah from them,
from among them any assistant.
[Saba 34:22]
meaning, a helper who helped Him in creating the heavens and the earth. So to Him belongs the ownership of the heavens and the earth. How many are the heavens? Brother?
The student: Seven.

The Shaykh : Seven? No, the heavens are greater than the earth, should not their number be ten?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Do you not know? How many are the heavens? Come on, boy? How many are the heavens? I do not think anyone remains ignorant of their number. How many are they?
The student: Seven.

The Shaykh : Seven. Allah the Exalted said:
Say, "Who is Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne?"
[Al-Mu'minun 23:86]
The earths are also seven in number, as that came clearly in the Qur'an and explicitly in the Sunnah. Allah the Exalted said:
It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them
[At-Talaq 65:12]
meaning in number. And it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he said:
He who wrongly took a span of land, Allah shall make him carry around his neck seven earths.
Sahih Muslim 1610a

And to Allah [all] matters are returned.
[Al-Baqarah 2:210]
All matters, meaning the general and private affairs, the religious and worldly, the hereafter and the worldly, all of them return to Allah Mighty and Majestic. He disposes as He wills and rules as He wills, and there is no one who can turn back His ruling, Mighty and Majestic. All matters. Do a person's private matters return to Allah? The answer is yes, they return to Allah. Therefore, you must, when a calamity befalls you, turn to Allah Mighty and Majestic, because the polytheists, even though they are polytheists, when calamities that they are unable to handle befall them, they turn to Allah Mighty and Majestic. When the winds rage against them in the depths of the seas on their ships, to whom do they turn?
The student: To Allah.

The Shaykh : To Allah Mighty and Majestic. They turn to Allah and ask Him to save them, and they are polytheists. So how about you, O Muslim? Turn to Allah in everything, small or large, religious or worldly, concerning you or your family. Do not turn to other than Allah. Whoever places his need with Allah, it is fulfilled, and whoever places his need with other than Allah, he is left to it. So we say,
And to Allah [all] matters are returned.
[Al-Baqarah 2:210]
Which matters? Say it, everyone?
The student: All matters, the general matters, the religious matters, and the worldly, and the hereafter and the worldly, and the private and the general. And if you believe in this, and you must believe in it, you become one who does not turn to anyone except Allah Mighty and Majestic.
causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night
[Al-Hajj 22:61]
"Yulij" means to insert, the night into the day, and He inserts the day, meaning He inserts it into the night. And this means the difference in length and shortness between the night and the day. Sometimes the night begins to increase, as in our times now. Now the night has begun to increase, so the night begins to increase, does it enter upon the day or does the day enter upon it?

The questioner : It enters upon the day.

The Shaykh : It enters upon the day. This is inserting the night into the day. Sometimes the night begins to decrease and the day increases, so which one enters? The day enters upon the night. No one is able to do that except Allah Glorified and Exalted is He. If all of creation were to gather, their humans and jinn, the humans and the angels, they would not be able to insert one minute of the night into the day or of the day into the night. And Allah Mighty and Majestic inserts the night into the day, and inserts the day into the night. Then this insertion does not come all at once, meaning you cannot say that the shortest night in the longest night is by two days, that is not possible. But it comes, what? Gradually, little by little. At first, when it begins to increase, you find it takes a little, one minute in two or three days, then it begins to increase and increase until it reaches the equality of the night and the day, when it takes up to about two minutes a day. Gradually. Have you seen, if it came all at once, we would be, for example, in the longest day of the year, and then on the next day we would be in the shortest day of the year. What would result from that? Great harms, because the people would turn from a disturbing heat to a painful cold within 24 hours, and this is undoubtedly harmful to bodies, plants, and the atmosphere. But He, Mighty and Majestic, inserts it in an organized manner in accordance with wisdom, and no one, by Allah, is able to do this ever, no matter how much strength he attains.
and he is Knowing of that within the breasts.
[Al-Hadid 57:6]
"Those of the breasts" are the hearts. "Those of the breasts" means the owners of the breasts, meaning the hearts. And the proof that they are the hearts is the saying of Allah Blessed and Exalted is He:
For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.
[Al-Hajj 22:46]
but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.
[Al-Hajj 22:46]
So He is All-Aware of what is in the heart. Do you believe in that?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, you believe, because the news is news from whom? News from Allah the Exalted.
and who is more truthful than Allah in statement.
[An-Nisa 4:122]
If you believe in that, is it possible for you to harbor in your heart what Allah does not approve of? Yes, if you are a believer, it is not possible. Purify your heart from showing off in worship and from hypocrisy, and from resentment toward the Muslims, and from hatred, and from enmity. Purify it, because your heart is known to Allah Mighty and Majestic. O Allah, purify our hearts. O Allah, purify our hearts. O Allah, purify our hearts. Purify the heart from this, and fill it with love for Allah and exalting Him, and love for the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and exalting him as befits him, and love for the believers, and love for the Shari'ah of Allah, even if you dislike it. Allah Mighty and Majestic said to the Companions:
Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.
[Al-Baqarah 2:216]
Do not harbor in this heart, which is a morsel, anything that Allah dislikes. If you do, Allah is All-Aware of it, and nothing is hidden from Him. So purify your heart so that it is pure, sound, because on the Day of Resurrection, only he who comes to Allah with a sound heart will benefit, as Allah Mighty and Majestic said:
(88) The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children (89) But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." يوم لا ينفع مال ولا بنون إلاّ من أتى الله بقلب سليم
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:88-89]
And the changes of the heart are rapid and strange. Perhaps it moves from disbelief to faith, or from faith to disbelief, in an instant! We ask Allah for steadfastness. The change of the heart is according to what surrounds the person, and the most thing that necessitates the change of the heart to corruption is the love of the world. The love of the world is a calamity, and the wonder is that we are attached to it, and we know that it is the enjoyment of delusion, and that if a person is pleased one day, he is harmed another day, as the poet said:
"And a day is against us and a day is for us *** And a day we are humiliated and a day we are pleased"
Every pleasure in the world is surrounded by something that spoils it. So strive to purify the heart from attachment to the world, except in what benefits you in the hereafter, such as attaching to the world to become wealthy so that you spend your wealth in the cause of Allah and in what pleases Allah Mighty and Majestic. That is something else. Seeking wealth for righteous deeds is good, but seeking wealth to compete with the people of the world in their world is evil. And what remains in the future will come, if Allah wills, so that we can devote ourselves to the questions, and each person has a question, and the questions are reserved for our guest brothers. You...
