What is the ruling on reserving places in the mosque?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : What is the ruling on reserving places in the mosque?

The Shaykh : What is the ruling on what?

The questioner : Reserving places in the mosque.

The Shaykh : Yes, what I see regarding reserving places in the mosque is that if a person is in the mosque, there is nothing wrong with it, on the condition that the rows do not become so numerous that he has to step over them later. As for the one who places a reservation and then leaves, this is not permissible, because he is reserving what he does not deserve. Some scholars said that it is permissible, and this is what is mentioned in the Hanbali school, may Allah have mercy on them. They said: There is nothing wrong with a person reserving a place for himself to pray in. But this is a weak opinion without a doubt, for the mosque belongs to whom? The mosque belongs to Allah, and who has the greater right to it? The one who arrived first. Yes.
