Ruling on Reserving a Place in the Mosque

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
May Allah preserve you, O honorable Shaykh. What is the ruling on reserving a place in the mosque by placing a book or something similar in the first row, or a rag, or the like?
Reserving a place in the mosque is permissible if a person is in the mosque. It is also permissible if he reserves a place and leaves to attend to a need, such as performing wudu' or something similar. However, if he reserves a place and goes to his home, to his family, or to his shop, some scholars say that this is not permissible, because the right belongs to the first person, and this constitutes preventing that right. And among them are those who say: Others say it is permissible because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set up a tent for Sa'd ibn Mu'adh in the mosque, and this is a type of reserving a place. I see that it is a sign of scrupulousness for a person to refrain from this reserving except in the two cases I mentioned: when he leaves the mosque for a need and returns shortly, or when he is in the mosque itself.
