What is the ruling on pledging salaries in banks in exchange for purchasing a car through installments?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The question is that some interest-based banks have a car installment program for employees of certain government departments. They require the employee to transfer his salary to the bank or endorse the check to the bank to preserve their rights. After that, the employee is allowed to dispose of his salary. What is the ruling?

The Shaykh : But how is the sale conducted?

The questioner : How?

The Shaykh : How is the sale conducted with these people?

The questioner : A car; they own their cars.

The Shaykh : Are the cars available with them?

The questioner : Yes, but in the showroom. The showroom belongs to us.

The Shaykh : There is no harm. For example, he says, "I will buy a car from the showroom for cash for fifty thousand?"

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And on credit for seventy thousand, for example.

The questioner : Yes, that is right.

The Shaykh : But we want to pledge the salary so that it is transferred to us so that we can deduct the installment.

The questioner : Yes, that is right.

The Shaykh : There is nothing wrong with this. I say this is permissible; there is nothing wrong with it.

The questioner : There is nothing wrong?

The Shaykh : There is nothing wrong.

The questioner : Is it not assisting them in sin, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : If you do not want to assist them, do not buy from them in the first place.

The questioner : But the ruling is that it is permissible.

The Shaykh : The ruling is permissible, my brother. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) dealt with the Jews before their guidance and bought and sold with them.

The questioner : But were the Jews Muslim, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : Is the ruling regarding interest for Muslims?

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : Interest does not apply to Muslims. I mean, is the Jew a disbeliever or a Muslim?

The Shaykh : By Allah, I do not know if the Jew is a disbeliever or a Muslim. Someone should answer him.

The questioner : A disbeliever, O Shaykh. Not a disbeliever, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : More disbelieving than a disbeliever.

The questioner : Yes, but he has no sin.
The student: He cited evidence for ...

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : I mean interest on Muslims.

The Shaykh : Interest is forbidden for the Muslim and the non-Muslim.

The questioner : But we say the disbeliever has no sin.

The Shaykh : How is it upon him?

The questioner : His sin, but is he punished?

The Shaykh : The disbeliever is punished. It is not only for the forbidden that he is punished; he is punished even for the clothes he wears and the food he eats. Have you not heard your Lord say:
There is not upon those who believe and do righteousness [any] blame concerning what they have eaten ليس على الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات جناح فيما طعموا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:93]
And those who did not believe and did not do righteous deeds, is there a burden upon them? Yes, there is a burden upon them. Have you not heard your Lord say:
Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believe during the worldly life [but] exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection." قل من حرم زينة الله التي أخرج لعباده والطيبات من الرزق قل هي للذين آمنوا في الحياة الدنيا خالصة يوم القيامة
[Al-A'raf 7:32]
And as for those who did not believe, they are not forbidden in this world, nor is it pure for them. On the Day of Resurrection, they will be recompensed for it. Now, do not think that a disbeliever drinks a sip of water without being held accountable and punished for it, or eats a bite of bread without being held accountable for it. Do you understand? Good.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
