What is the ruling on placing cloaks on the grave when a deceased woman is being lowered into her grave, and that no one other than her mahram (a relative one may not marry) should enter with her?

The questioner : We see when a woman is being placed in her grave.

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : When a woman is being placed in her grave.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : We see some people placing a cloak.

The Shaykh : on the grave.

The questioner : on the grave.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : and her being lowered in.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : And perhaps only her mahram (a relative one may not marry) enters with her.

The Shaykh : Yes, as for placing a cloak on the grave when the woman is being lowered, that is good. The scholars have mentioned it and said that the woman's grave is draped when she is placed in it, meaning it is covered. As for it being a condition that only her mahram (a relative one may not marry) buries her, that is not a condition. It is permissible for her mahram (a relative one may not marry) or someone else to lower her in. For this reason, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out for the funeral of one of his daughters, he said:
Which of you did not have sexual intercourse with his wife last night? أيكم لم يقارف الليلة
Abu Talhah said, "I am the one." He said,
Go down. انزل
So he went down into her grave, while her husband, Uthman, was present, and her father, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), was present. Yes.
