Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help,” the grammatical analysis of the verse, and clarification of the reality of worship.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
It is You we worship and You we ask for help.إياك نعبد وإياك نستعين
[Al-Fatihah 1:5]
. We worship,
You alone we worshipإياك نعبد
if we were to ask for the grammatical analysis of
You alone we worshipإياك نعبد
, what would you answer? Yes, it is a fronted object. And why is it separated, even though it could be attached? That is, we could say: “We worship You.” So we say: if we attached it, an important matter would be lost, which is exclusivity. Here, when we fronted it for the sake of exclusivity, it became necessary to separate it. If I said: “K we worship,” the speech would not be coherent and would not be in the Arabic language.
You aloneإياك
means none other than You.
we worshipنعبد
means we humble ourselves to Him with the most complete humility. For this reason, you find the believers—may Allah make me and you among them—placing the most noble part of their bodies at the place where feet tread, in humility to Allah Mighty and Majestic: they prostrate on the earth, their foreheads filled with earth, they prostrate at the place where feet tread. All of this is humility to Allah Mighty and Majestic. If a person were to say: “I will give you the entire world, so prostrate to me,” the believer would never agree, because this humility is for Allah Mighty and Majestic. And worship entails carrying out everything Allah has commanded and leaving off everything Allah has forbidden, because whoever does not do so is not a worshipper. If he did not do the command, meaning if he did not do what is commanded, would he be a true worshipper? Never. And if he did not leave off what is forbidden, he would not be a true servant. The servant who agrees with the One worshipped in His legislative will. So worship necessitates that a person carry out everything he is commanded to do and leave off everything he is forbidden from doing. But can your carrying out of this be without the help of Allah? No, it is not possible. For this reason, He said:
And You alone we ask for helpوإياك نستعين
meaning we do not seek help from anyone but You in worship. And Allah Glorified and Exalted is He combines worship and seeking help, or reliance, in several places in the Noble Qur'an, because there is no carrying out of worship in the most perfect manner except with the help of Allah, entrusting matters to Him, and relying upon Him.
