Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “In their hearts is a disease, so Allah increased their disease, and for them is a painful punishment for what they used to lie,” along with mentioning the benefits of the verse.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
In their hearts is disease في قلوبهم مرض
[Al-Baqarah 2:10]
The lesson ends today?? In this noble verse, there are benefits: First, that the hypocrites are those with diseased hearts, as He said:
In their hearts is disease في قلوبهم مرض
[Al-Baqarah 2:10]
And He made the disease surrounded by the preposition of the heart, as if it is firmly established in the heart — may Allah protect us from that —
In their hearts is disease في قلوبهم مرض
[Al-Baqarah 2:10]
So what is the disease of these people? The disease of these people is doubt, or disbelief, denial, deception, plotting, and the like. And among the benefits of this noble verse: that whoever Allah knows has evil and badness in him, He increases him in his badness and evil. For this reason, He said:
so Allah has increased their disease فزادهم الله مرضا
[Al-Baqarah 2:10]
And this is more severe than His saying, the Exalted:
And when they deviated, Allah caused their hearts to deviate. فلما زاغوا أزاغ الله قلوبهم
[As-Saf 61:5]
Because this is explicit that Allah, the Exalted, increased their disease, and if the disease increases, the outcome is destruction. And among the benefits of the noble verse: the warning of these hypocrites with painful, hurting punishment, as He said, the Exalted:
for them is a painful punishmentولهم عذاب أليم
[Al-Baqarah 2:10]
. And among its benefits: establishing causality, as He said:
because they [habitually] used to lie.بما كانوا يكذبون
[Al-Baqarah 2:10]
And in a reading:
They denyيكذّبون
as mentioned, so they are liars and deniers. And this is among the benefits of the two readings: that the first indicates that they themselves are lying, and the second: that they are denying the truth and sincerity.
