If a man divorces his wife three times with a single word, what is the ruling on that?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : This questioner says, "O honorable Shaykh, if a man divorces his wife three times with a single word, what is the ruling on that?"

The Shaykh : The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed on this issue, and we refer the reader to what Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned regarding this issue.
If the matter has actually occurred, one should ask the scholars in his country or elsewhere, and seek a specific ruling on it. This is because pronouncing the triple divorce in a single utterance is forbidden, playing with the Book of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and hastening in a matter where a person should exercise patience. For this reason, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) upheld the three divorces for the one who divorced three times, saying: "I see that people have hastened in a matter in which they should have been patient, so if we were to uphold it for them", and he upheld it for them.
We advise our Muslim brothers to avoid anger, haste, and rushing in the matter of divorce. The rushing that occurs in divorce has aspects. The first aspect is that some people, when they become angry, even slightly, divorce their wives.
The second aspect is that some people, when they become angry, divorce their wives irrevocably, meaning they divorce them three times. This is also a great error. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that a man said, "O Messenger of Allah, advise me." He said,
Do not get angry لا تغضب
He repeated this several times. He said,
Do not get angry لا تغضب
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that anger is an ember that Satan throws into the heart of the son of Adam.
The cure for anger is for a person to train himself on calmness, patience, and deliberation. Then, if anger strikes him, let him seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, for it will remove from him what he feels. If he is standing, let him sit. If he is sitting, let him lie down. If he is facing the one he is angry with, let he turn away. All of this protects a person from the evil of his anger. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
