﴿ فَاسْأَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴾

Continuation of the benefits of the verse: “And when Moses said to his people, ‘O my people, you have wronged yourselves by taking the calf as a god. So repent to your Creator and kill yourselves. That is better for you with your Creator. He will then accept your repentance. Indeed, He is the Accepter of repentance, the Merciful.’”

So kill yourselvesفاقتلوا أنفسكم
Because it has been mentioned previously that they were not ordered to kill each one’s own self, but rather that some of them should kill others.
In it is also evidence for the difference in the degrees of deeds, due to His saying:
That is best for [all of] you in the sight of your Creatorذلكم خير لكم عند بارئكم
[Al-Baqarah 2:54]
And deeds differ in degree with Allah the Exalted, so some of them are better than others.
