What is the ruling on a beginner student who follows one of the contemporary scholars and does not listen to anyone else?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Your Eminence, may Allah preserve you: Regarding some students of knowledge, they follow, for example, a contemporary shaykh in all of his statements.

The Shaykh : What do they follow?

The questioner : For example, some beginner students of knowledge believe that they should follow their shaykh in all of his statements.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : If it agrees with the evidence, they take it; and if it does not agree, or if their shaykh, for example, retracts a statement—meaning he abandons it—do they end up following all of his statements? That is, they take the stronger position, and the stronger position from their shaykh if it is not well-known?

The Shaykh : Yes. Allah the Exalted says in the Noble Qur'an:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know. فاسألوا أهل الذكر إن كنتم لا تعلمون
[An-Nahl 16:43]
The student has not yet reached the level of knowledge, so it is obligatory for him to follow a scholar without knowing his evidence. It is well known that the student follows his shaykh, for if he did not follow his shaykh, he would not benefit from him. If the student did not believe that his shaykh is a person of trust in his knowledge and his integrity, he would not benefit from him. There is no blame on him in this, until he grows up and his knowledge expands and he is able to perform independent legal reasoning himself, then he chooses what he chooses. Yes, yes, please go ahead.
