What is your opinion of one who takes a student's certificate, with the owner's permission, to obtain books from the Department of Ifta?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I say, O Shaykh: What is your opinion of one who takes another person's certificate to go to the Department of Ifta, for example, to obtain books in the name of the owner of this certificate, after his consent?
The Shaykh : I ask you: Is this from truthfulness or from lying?
The questioner : Is it from lying?
The Shaykh : Is it from lying?
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : Now, is lying asked about as lawful or forbidden?
The questioner : We have found many young men doing this thing and taking books.
The Shaykh : May Allah accept our repentance and theirs. These people have truly demolished a minaret and built a ruin. First: there is lying in this, and lying is forbidden.
Second: there is betrayal and deception of the responsible authority in it.
Third: there is taking money without right, or taking books without right, in it. So it is obligatory for a person to be frank.
Look at the hypocrites: when the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the Battle of Tabuk, what did they do?
They came saying: "We are excused," and they swore by Allah. So Allah the Exalted said:[At-Tawbah 9:95], and those who told the truth and were frank that they had no excuse, Allah preserved their mention until the Day of Resurrection; He revealed a Book about them that is recited.
So these brothers, in reality, who say: "We want to learn," we say: It is absolutely impossible to attract Allah's provision through His disobedience. Fear Allah and be truthful, and the matter will be made easy for you, because truthfulness is from mindfulness of Allah, and Allah the Exalted said:[At-Talaq 65:4].
So it is not permissible for these people to take a student of knowledge's card to use it to obtain books, and it is not permissible for a student of knowledge to give them his card either so that they can take books with it.
