What is the ruling on one who prayed in a direction other than the qiblah in Jeddah and did not know until after he had completed the prayer and a period of time had passed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. I have a few questions, among them: A man prayed in Jeddah, near the sea, in the middle of the city but close to the sea. He prayed in a direction other than the direction of the qiblah. After he finished his prayer, he discovered that the qiblah was in the opposite direction. What is required of this person, especially since many days have passed?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for this man to repeat the prayer.

The questioner : Now?

The Shaykh : Now, because his prayer in a direction other than the qiblah is not valid, and he is not in a place of ijtihad where we would say he should exercise ijtihad, and he is in the city, he must repeat his prayer now, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding one who sleeps through a prayer or forgets it:
So let him pray it when he remembers it فيلصلها إذا ذكرها
And this man did not know the ruling until now, so let him pray now.

The questioner : Is that so?

The Shaykh : No, no, the second question is no.

The questioner : This one only, because we are from outside, so it is difficult.

The Shaykh : Do you allow him?

The questioner : Yes.
