What is your opinion on taking what exceeds a handful from the beard?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, what is your opinion on the statement regarding taking a handful, or what exceeds a handful, from the beard?

The Shaykh : Yes, we have a Sunnah from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and a Sunnah from a Companion. A Sunnah from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and a Sunnah from a Companion. As for the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), he said:
Let the beards grow. أعفوا اللحى
He did not restrict it, nor did he permit taking what exceeds a handful. As for the Sunnah of the Companion, it is Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both):
When he performed Hajj كان إذا حج
When he performed Hajj, and I think 'Umrah, he would grasp his beard, and whatever exceeded the handful, he would trim it. كان إذا حج وأظنه أو اعتمر قبض على لحيته فما زاد عن القبضة قصه
He did not trim it constantly, but only during the rites of pilgrimage. It is also narrated from two or three of the Companions. So, is the Sunnah of the Messenger preferred, or the Sunnah of the Companion?

The questioner : The Sunnah of the Messenger.

The Shaykh : I ask you about the Messenger because Allah says:
And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?" وَيَوْمَ يُنَادِيهِمْ فَيَقُولُ مَاذَا أَجَبْتُمُ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
[Al-Qasas 28:65]
We are commanded and obligated to obey the Messengers, whereas others are not protected from error. Every person’s words are taken and left. As for Ibn 'Umar, who is the narrator of the hadith, doing so, the legal principle among the scholars of terminology and the scholars of usul is: "The criterion is what is narrated, not what is seen". This is because narration is protected from a protected source, conveying a report from a protected source, whereas opinion is what? Opinion is not protected. Therefore, this principle is one of the most beneficial principles.
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in *I'lam al-Muwaqqin* that I believe he listed more than twenty issues in which the narrator contradicted what he narrated, and the scholars took what he narrated, not what he did.
