The Shaykh : Allah says:
And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?" وَيَوْمَ يُنَادِيهِمْ فَيَقُولُ مَاذَا أَجَبْتُمُ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
[Al-Qasas 28:65]
We are commanded and obligated to respond to the messengers, but others are not protected from error; every person’s statement is taken and left. As for Ibn ‘Umar, who is the narrator of the hadith, doing so, the legal principle among scholars of terminology and principles is: “The criterion is what is narrated, not what is seen”, because narration is protected from a protected source, conveying a report from a protected source, whereas opinion? Opinion is not protected. Therefore, this principle is among the most beneficial principles.
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in *I‘lam al-Muwaqqi‘in* that I think more than twenty issues were mentioned where the narrator contradicted what he narrated, and the scholars took what he narrated, not what he saw. Yes.

The questioner : Shaykh of Tafsir.

The Shaykh : No, just one question, but the principle is from the left.
