The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds — [settle down a bit ...] — Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows:
So we begin this gathering, the gathering of Thursday, the fourth of the month of Safar, in a series of gatherings of the Open Door, which is part of a continuous program, and praise be to Allah. We ask Allah the Exalted to place good and blessing in it. This is Thursday, the fourth of Safar, in the year 1417, and this is the one hundred and twenty-eighth session. Indeed, this is the one hundred and twenty-eighth gathering, which we open by speaking about what is facilitated, or by what is facilitated of speaking about the exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted, in the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:[Qaf 50:1] Where did we finish from?
The student: ...
The Shaykh : Good, then we say: we speak about what Allah Mighty and Majestic facilitates in what remains of the exegesis of Surat al-Hujurat. Allah Mighty and Majestic says to His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):[Al-Hujurat 49:17] In this verse, "that" was repeated three times. [Al-Hujurat 49:17] It was repeated twice, and it is on the assumption of the preposition "by," meaning: they claim a favor upon you, O Muhammad, by their Islam. This is the assumption, and the omission of the preposition with "inna" and "anna" is consistent, as Ibn Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said in *Al-Aliyyah* in *Al-Khulassah*. He said, may Allah have mercy on him:
"Indeed, the omission of the preposition with inna *** and anna is consistent with the absence of ambiguity"
[Al-Hujurat 49:17]: Meaning: by their having submitted, meaning: by their Islam. And by that he means a group who submitted without fighting, so they began to claim a favor upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), mentioning their virtues and saying: "We are the ones who believed in you and did not fight you as the people fought you, even though the benefit is for whom? The benefit is for them." And for this reason, Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Hujurat 49:17] And His saying: [Al-Hujurat 49:17] This is a transition to negate what came before, meaning: you have no favor upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) by your Islam, but rather the favor is from Allah Mighty and Majestic upon you, that He guided you to faith. And there is no doubt that this is the greatest favor, that Allah the Exalted favors the servant with guidance to faith, even though Allah led astray many of the Ummah from it. For of the children of Adam, nine hundred and ninety-nine are all in the Fire, and one out of a thousand is in Paradise. So whoever is guided to be among the people of Paradise, that is a great favor from Allah upon him. And for this reason, Whenever he mentioned something, they said: "Allah and His Messenger are more just." So the favor is from Allah upon us, upon everyone whom Allah guided, upon everyone upon whom Allah bestowed a blessing. The favor is from Allah Mighty and Majestic upon him. And His saying: [Al-Baqarah 2:23] Meaning: if you are among those of truth who speak the truth, then know this: that the favor is from Allah upon you. [Al-Hujurat 49:17-18] Allah informed in this verse that He knows everything that is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and what is apparent is even more so. And He informed, Mighty and Majestic, that among what He knows is the action of the children of Adam. And for this reason He said: [Al-Hujurat 49:18] And this verse indicates a great matter in the conduct and work of a person, which is that he knows that Allah the Exalted is All-Seeing of his work and encompassing of it, so he fears Allah and is mindful of Him. We ask Allah the Exalted to favor us and you with guidance and success.
And how good it would be if one of you spoke about this Surah and derived from it the great etiquettes and collected them, so that they would be a reference for him when in need. And I have seen some people write an independent book in what is derived from these noble verses of etiquettes and morals, and it is worthy of that. We ask Allah to favor us and you with noble morals and high etiquettes. Indeed, He is Able to do all things. And now, to the questions.
