The questioner : May Allah forgive you. I hope you will clarify the situational legal rulings regarding the criteria and examples. May Allah forgive you?

The Shaykh : O Shaykh, we are not here for the principles of jurisprudence, yes.

The questioner : For the benefit of knowledge.

The Shaykh : The benefit is small, it seems, in any case. The obligatory, the recommended practice, the permissible, the disliked, and the forbidden are called by them obligatory rulings. The cause, the condition, the obstacle, the pillar, the obligatory, the defective, the valid, and the invalid are called by them situational rulings. You have understood. Also, the term "obligatory rulings" is criticized, for there is no word "taklif" (obligation) in the Book and the Sunnah except in a negative sense, not an affirmative one.
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
Therefore, we should say instead of "obligatory rulings," "rulings commanded or prohibited," so that we align with the Book and the Sunnah. As for "obligatory rulings," when one hears "taklif," it means that a person is burdened with what he is capable of. Praise be to Allah, a person is given according to his capacity. Therefore, when Allah the Exalted revealed His saying:
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. Whether you show what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it
[Al-Baqarah 2:284]
the Companions came to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and knelt on their knees, saying: O Messenger of Allah, we do not have the capacity for this. Will Allah hold us accountable for what is in our hearts, whether we reveal it or hide it? We cannot bear this. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: Do not be like those who said: "We heard and we disobeyed." Say: "We heard and we obeyed. Forgive us, our Lord, and to You is the destination." So they said: We heard and we obeyed. When they submitted and surrendered, Allah revealed the verse that followed: "Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It will have what it has earned, and it will be burdened with what it has acquired. Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not impose on us a burden like that which You imposed on those before us. Our Lord, do not impose on us what we have no ability to bear, and pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so support us against the disbelieving people." Allah said: Yes. look at how Allah Mighty and Majestic does not burden anyone except with what he can bear. So what he can bear is what he is obligated to do, meaning he is commanded to do it or prohibited from doing it. Yes.
