Continuation of the benefits of the hadith of Ma'dan ibn Abi Talhah: That 'Umar ibn al-Khattab delivered a sermon on Friday, mentioning the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr, saying: "I saw as if a rooster pecked me three times, and I do not see this except as the arrival of my term. And there are people who urge me to appoint a successor, and Allah will not let His religion, His caliphate, or that with which He sent His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) be lost. If my end comes quickly, then the caliphate is a matter of consultation among these six, of whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was pleased when he passed away. And I know that some people will criticize this matter. I struck them with this hand of mine for Islam. If they do that, then those are the enemies of Allah, the disbelievers, the misguided. Then I do not leave behind me anything more important to me than the inheritance of the kin without direct heirs. I never consulted the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about anything as much as I consulted him about the inheritance of the kin without direct heirs, and he never was severe with me about anything as he was severe with me about this, until he poked his finger in my chest and said: 'O 'Umar, is not the verse of summer in the end of Surat al-Nisa' sufficient for you?' And if I live, I will judge in it with a judgment by which one who reads the Qur'an and one who does not read the Qur'an will judge. Then he said: 'O Allah, I testify You upon the governors of the provinces, and I have only sent them to them to be just with them, to teach the people their religion and the Sunnah of their Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), to distribute their spoils among them, and to refer to me what is difficult for them in their affairs. Then, O people, you eat two plants which I do not see except as foul: this is onion and garlic. I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he found their smell from a man in the mosque, he ordered him to be taken out to al-Baqi'. So whoever eats them, let him cook them."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : It provides for those who perform it from among the employees, and the second is what? The delay of people's transactions, and the hardship upon them if he wants to travel from the country he is in to the country that is the headquarters, so there is fatigue in it. But if a governor is appointed for each country who is independent in some matters and refers to the highest governor what is difficult for him, as he said here: "and refer to me what is difficult for them," and this is the wise policy in which there is benefit for the governor and the governed.
And from the benefits of this report: describing onion and garlic as foul, due to his saying:
I find are nothing but obnoxious لا أراهما إلا خبيثتين
Sunan Ibn Majah 1014Sahih (Darussalam)
, so if someone says: If 'Umar sees them as foul, then they must be forbidden, so what is the answer?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Why?

The Shaykh : So is it said: That this is an exception from the forbidden foul things? Yes, from what?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Fu'ad.
The student: Not every foul thing is forbidden, but every forbidden thing is foul,

The Shaykh : Yes, meaning the meaning of: "The foul things are forbidden" is that what is forbidden is foul, and the meaning is not that every foul thing is forbidden, but every impure thing is forbidden, and not every forbidden thing is impure, and we have referred to these rules during the explanation of the hadith.
And from the benefits of this hadith: That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has a sense of smell. From where is this taken? He found their smell from the man in the mosque. And is it taken that he was strong, strong in the sense of smell? It is taken, yes, because the smell of onion and garlic does not appear clearly except when a person approaches the person with a clear approach, or the person is strong in smell.
And from the benefits of this report - it is a report from 'Umar but it contains elevated hadiths - from its benefits: That whoever eats onion or garlic and enters the mosque, then it is a recommended practice that he be taken out. Its indication: That he ordered him to be taken out to al-Baqi'.
And from its benefits that he is taken out to a distant place so that the passersby who come to the mosque are not harmed by his smell, because the Messenger did not order his taking out from the mosque only, but to al-Baqi', because if he went out and stood at the door of the mosque, the passersby would be harmed by him, so he is distanced.
And from the benefits of this report: The guidance of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to the attainment of benefits without harm, due to his saying:
Whoever eats them, let him cook them to death. فمن أكلهما فليمتهما طبخاً
Sunan an-Nasa'i 708Sahih (Darussalam)
, and the meaning of "let him cook them" is that he cooks them, and the meaning of "let him cook them": that he cooks them until what is in them of smell disappears.
This is what was facilitated for us, and perhaps a person will find other benefits upon reflection more than this.
