The Book of Mosques and Places of Prayer-06a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna and Muhammad ibn Bashar narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us from Abu Ishaq, who said: I heard al-Aswad narrating from Abdullah
From the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he recited "And the Star" and prostrated in it, and those with him prostrated, except for an old man who took a handful of pebbles or dirt and raised it to his forehead and said: "This is sufficient for me." Abdullah said: I certainly saw him afterwards, and he was killed as a disbeliever.
Sahih Muslim 576
.

The Shaykh : This is the result of his arrogance, may Allah protect us from it, regarding prostration, for he was punished with a bad ending, and he was killed afterwards as a disbeliever. And his statement: "He recited
And the Star والنجم
and prostrated in it, and those with him prostrated," and it has been established for us that prostration is prescribed for the one who follows and the listener, but not for the one who merely hears, and we have explained the difference between the listener and the one who merely hears; the listener is attentive and following, whereas the one who merely hears is not.
