The reciter: And Muhammad ibn al-Sabah narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Zakariyya narrated to us from Sahl from Abu 'Ubayd from Ata from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Like it."
The Shaykh : The apparent meaning of this hadith is that sins are forgiven, even if they are major sins, due to his saying:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 476Da'if (Darussalam) But the majority of scholars hold that this is restricted to the case where major sins are avoided. They reasoned this by saying: If the great obligatory acts, such as the five daily prayers, Friday to Friday, and Ramadan to Ramadan, do not expiate sins unless major sins are avoided, then acts of lesser status are all the more so, because those lesser acts are voluntary, and a servant draws closer to his Lord with nothing He loves more than what He has made obligatory upon him. There are ten attributes: Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah) ten times, Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) ten times, and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) ten times.
There is a fourth attribute: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah), and Allahu Akbar, twenty-five times.
There is a fifth attribute mentioned by some scholars, but it is based on the understanding of Abu Salih, which is to say Subhan Allah eleven times, Alhamdulillah eleven times, and Allahu Akbar eleven times. However, this has not been established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
