The reciter: And 'Amr al-Naqqad narrated to me, saying: Shababah ibn Suwar al-Mada'ini narrated to us, saying: Layth ibn Sa'd narrated to us from 'Aqil ibn Khalid from al-Zuhri from Anas, who said:
When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to combine the two prayers while traveling, he would delay the midday prayer until the first part of the afternoon prayer time entered, then he would combine them. كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلّم إذا أراد أن يجمع بين الصلاتين بالسفر أخّر الظهر حتى يدخل أول وقت العصر ثم يجمع بينهما
