Learning Sacred Knowledge: Is It Limited to Sacred Subjects Only, or Does It Include Some Other Sciences?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Learning Sacred Knowledge: Is it limited to sacred subjects only, or does it include some other sciences? I ask you to provide information regarding my question.

The Shaykh : Sacred sciences are included in sacred knowledge, and learning them is a form of learning sacred knowledge; there is no issue with this. As for the other sciences, one must look at whether they assist in sacred knowledge. If they do, they are among the beneficial sciences that a person benefits from in strengthening his ability to know the sacred sciences, such as the science of grammar and rhetoric. If they do not assist in the sacred sciences, we look at whether they are beneficial in this world. If the benefit does not extend to others, they are among the permissible matters. If the benefit extends to others, they are among the sought-after matters.
If they are harmful, they are forbidden. If they are neither harmful nor beneficial, they are among the idle talk that a person of reason should avoid.
