Explanation of the Book of Hajj-10b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: 'Umar ibn Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to us, saying: Al-A'mash narrated to us, saying: 'Amarah narrated to me from 'Abd al-Rahman from 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
I never saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pray a prayer other than at its appointed time, except for two prayers: he combined the Maghrib and 'Isha' prayers, and he prayed the Fajr prayer before its appointed time. ما رأيت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى صلاةً لغير ميقاتها إلا صلاتين جمع بين المغرب والعشاء وصلى الفجر قبل ميقاتها

The Shaykh : 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) meant by "appointed time" the time one is accustomed to praying in. Otherwise, it is well known that the Fajr prayer is not valid before its time. However, he meant that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would advance [the prayer]. Here, a chain from al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) passes us by, from 'Abd al-Rahman from 'Ali from so-and-so from so-and-so. This may be confusing to a person: what is the reason they do not attribute it [by full name]? The answer is that they attribute it by abbreviation. If they were to include the three-part or four-part name, the book would become lengthy. The ambiguous name is identified by its teachers and students. So, if one says, for example, "from 'Ali," meaning "narrated to me by 'Ali ibn 'Abdullah," we know who he is: he is Ibn al-Madini, because he was one of al-Bukhari's teachers. The same applies to the rest. This has a benefit: first, it is concise and does not lengthen the book; second, it encourages a person to exert effort in researching this ambiguous name.
