I am consistent with the Fajr and 'Isha' prayers in their proper times, but I do not perform the other prayers in their times, such as Zuhr and 'Asr, because I return from the university.

The questioner : I am, praise be to Allah, one of those who are consistent with the Fajr and 'Isha' prayers, but I do not go to the other prayers, such as Maghrib and 'Asr, because I return from the university tired. I combine Zuhr and 'Asr late most of the time. When the adhan is called for Maghrib, I have just finished the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers or have eaten. Do I have to go to the mosque? And will I be punished if I do not go? Please inform me about this.

The Shaykh : I say that you have committed a sin by delaying the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers until just before sunset. It is obligatory for a person, if he comes home tired from studying and is unable to pray Zuhr and 'Asr each in its proper time, to combine 'Asr with Zuhr if the time for Zuhr has entered, and to sleep until Maghrib if he wishes.
As for delaying the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers until near sunset, this is forbidden for him and not permissible. He must repent and organize his time in a way that allows him to pray the prayers in their proper times.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
