The questioner : What is the ruling on one who makes a vow for his father, who was ill and underwent a surgical operation, then he was discharged and enjoyed good health for a month, then the illness returned to him and he died, and the vow is a camel, on the condition: if he is cured of this illness, and he is cured for a limited period, then the illness returns to him and he dies? We ask you for the ruling?
The Shaykh : If the recovery he experienced during the two illnesses was a complete recovery in which no symptoms of the illness remained, then it is obligatory for her to fulfill the vow. She must slaughter the camel and give it in charity to the poor, thanking Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for this blessing, which is the recovery of her father.
As for if the recovery was merely a cessation of the illness, with the symptoms of the illness still present, then nothing is obligatory for her, because the reality of the matter is that her father was not cured of the illness, and she only vowed if her father was cured.
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
