Explanation of the Book of Fitnahs and Rulings-03b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Malik narrated to me from Abu al-Zinad from al-A'raj from Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
The Hour will not come until a man passes by the grave of another and says, 'If only I were in his place.' لا تقوم الساعة حتى يمر الرجل بقبر الرجل فيقول يا ليتني مكانه
Muwatta Malik 16:55
.

The Shaykh : This means due to the abundance of trials; he does not wish for death, but he wishes that this trial had not occurred, or that he had died before this trial. From this is his saying:
And when you have willed Fitnah for your slave, then take me to You, without making me suffer from Fitnah إن أردت بعبادك فتنة فاقبضني إليك غير مفتون
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3233Hasan (Darussalam)
This is not a wish for death, but a wish for a state of being, namely that one dies without trial. Also from this is the saying of Maryam:
I wish I had died before this and been forgotten. يا ليتني مت قبل هذا وكنت نسيا منسيا
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 26:168
The meaning is not that she wishes she had died before this time, but that she wishes she had died and this thing had not happened to her.
