We went to call our relatives in the south of the Kingdom to Islam; they were raised on Sufism and were told not to listen to any Wahhabi coming from the Hijaz, so we wanted to call them to the oneness of Allah

The questioner : May Allah preserve you, Shaykh. Some of the brothers went to call their relatives in southern Yemen to Islam. Their relatives were raised and grew up under the hands of Sufi scholars. Among the things they taught them, they said: If anyone comes to you from the Hijaz or from Najd, or if he is a monotheist, he is considered a Wahhabi, so do not accept from him. We wanted to call them to the oneness of Allah, but they did not accept this call from us. Is this establishing the proof? And is understanding the proof a condition for establishing it, or not?
The Shaykh : Yes, there is no doubt that if it is said to them: This is the truth, this is the Book of Allah, and this is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then the proof has been established against them, because they are Arabs who understand as soon as they hear. But if he were a non-Arab and you were speaking to him in Arabic and he did not understand it, then the proof has not been established against him, because he does not know what you are saying. If he understands what you are saying and you bring the Book and the Sunnah as evidence, but he insists and says: I will follow my sheikhs, then the proof has been established against him. This is like those about whom Allah said:[Az-Zukhruf 43:22], [Az-Zukhruf 43:23], yes.
The questioner : They do not listen to us, but they say we are Wahhabis?
The Shaykh : Fine, we say: Call us whatever you want: Wahhabis, Hanbalis, Najdis, Hijazis, or whatever you want. Do you not believe in Allah and His Messenger?
Do you not see that the Qur'an is evidence and that the Sunnah is evidence?
Please, yes, but it seems that some callers to Allah become emotional when they say: We do not accept you, you are Wahhabis. They get repelled by them or respond to them in kind, saying: You are misguided, you are in it, you are in it. So the call with wisdom does not come from him, yes.

Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are in their footsteps [rightly] guided."
إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا عَلَى أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ مُقْتَدُونَAnd similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are, in their footsteps, following."
The questioner : They do not listen to us, but they say we are Wahhabis?
