The Shaykh : The questioner, Wasim ibn Ahmad, asks: What is the meaning of the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) when the Muhajireen and the Ansar disputed over Salman al-Farisi on the day of digging the trench, where he said:
Salman is from us, the People of the House سلمان منا أهل البيت
?
The meaning of this is that because Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) was Persian, some people thought that he had no connection to the Muslims because he was not Arab. So he said:
Salman is from us, the People of the House سلمان منا أهل البيت
, meaning that the criterion is not lineage; true brotherhood is the brotherhood of faith.
