The Book of the Prayer of the Traveler and Its Shortening-06b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Reciter: And Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna and Ibn Bashshar narrated it to us, both saying: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us from Abu Ishaq with this chain, except that the narration of Mansur is more complete and more extensive.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
We have previously discussed the hadith of the descent and clarified that it is a real descent in which our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, descends Himself to the lowest heaven. We also clarified a beneficial principle: that whatever Allah, Mighty and Majestic, attributes to Himself, the intended meaning is the reality of the attribution, and that it is attributed to Himself and not to another. We mentioned many examples of this and clarified that the objections raised by some people today, which indicate hesitation and doubt or excessive strictness and deepening, are all objections that it is not permissible for a person to raise. The obligation upon a person in such matters is to say, "We have heard and we have obeyed," and not to object. In the phrases the author cited from the hadith of Abu Sa'id and Abu Hurayrah, there is a difference: some say
When half of the night إذا مضى شطر الليل
Sahih Muslim 758c
, some say
when the first third of the night has passed إذا مضى ثلث الليل الأول
Musnad Ahmad 967, 968Hasan because of corroborating evidence; this is a Da'if isnad because Ata' al-Madani is unknown], Hasan (Darussalam)
, and some say
When the last third remains إذا بقي الثلث الأخر
. This means that two-thirds of the night have passed. The apparent view, and Allah knows best, is that this difference is either a difference among the narrators themselves, where some memorized it this way and others memorized it that way, in which case one should look to the majority; or it is said that the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, sometimes descends when half of the night has passed, sometimes when the first third has passed, and sometimes when two-thirds have passed.
