Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Yahya ibn Yahya narrated to us, saying: I read to Malik from Dhamrah ibn Sa'id al-Mazini from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abd Allah: That 'Umar ibn al-Khattab asked Abu Waqid al-Laythi: What did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) use to recite in the prayer of 'Id al-Adha and 'Id al-Fitr? He said: He used to recite in both of them Qaf and the Glorious Qur'an, and The Hour is Nigh, and The Moon has Cleft.

The Shaykh : It has been mentioned previously that he sometimes used to recite in them al-A'la and al-Ghashiyah. Accordingly, the imam should recite sometimes with these and sometimes with those. He should also consider the conditions of the people, such as the weather. If the weather is cold, we may say here that it is better to recite Subhan and al-Ghashiyah. If the weather is moderate, let him recite with
Q ق
and
The Hour is Nigh
, so as not to burden the people, thereby attaining the Sunnah without hardship.
