The Shaykh : This does not go beyond what has been mentioned previously, that the Companions differed on this matter. However, there is no doubt that the truth is with Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and that the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was regarding the temporary marriage.
Ali and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them both) met at 'Usfan, and Uthman was forbidding the temporary marriage or the lesser pilgrimage. Ali said: What is your intention regarding a matter that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did, that you forbid it? Uthman said: Leave us alone from you. Ali said: I am unable to leave you alone. When Ali saw that, he declared his intention for both of them.
