The reciter: Sa'id ibn Mansur and Ibn Abi 'Umar both narrated to us from al-Fazari. Sa'id said: Marwan ibn Mu'awiyyah narrated to us, saying: Sulayman al-Taymi informed us from Ghunaym ibn Qays, who said:
The Shaykh : Al-'Arsh is the plural of 'arish.
The reciter: He said:Sahih Muslim 1225a
The Shaykh : His statement (may Allah be pleased with him) means by that the 'Umrah during the months of Hajj, not the temporary marriage (mut'ah), because the temporary marriage (mut'ah) that they practiced in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was after the Islam of Mu'awiyyah (may Allah be pleased with him), but what is intended is the 'Umrah during the months of Hajj, the 'Umrah of al-Qada'.
I asked Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) about the temporary marriage (mut'ah)? He said: We used to do it, and at that time there was a disbeliever in al-'Arsh, meaning the houses of Makkah.
سألت سعد بن أبي وقّاصٍ رضي الله عنه عن المتعة؟ فقال : فعلناها وهذا يومئذٍ كافرٌ بالعرْش يعني بيوت مكّةThe Shaykh : Al-'Arsh is the plural of 'arish.
The reciter: He said:
We did that, and it was the day when he was an unbeliever living in (one of the) houses of Mecca.
